Long-serving Barclays exec Matthew Haines leaves for Santander

  • Matthew Haines, former head of product and partnerships at Barclays, has left the bank after nearly two decades to join Santander UK as a product owner.
  • Haines played a key role in developing Barclays’ API-based token management service, contributing to the UK payments strategy, and exploring open banking and commercial variable recurring payments.
  • Before his recent role, he held various leadership positions at Barclays, including senior product and proposition manager, debit card product manager, and contactless business manager at Barclaycard.
  • Haines expressed gratitude for the support of colleagues and leaders during his time at Barclays.
  • He has joined Santander UK’s Payments Centre of Excellence (PCoE) and has already started his new position as a product owner.
  • In his new role, Haines aims to focus on “being digital with a human touch” and contribute to the mission of unlocking potential, driving value, and fostering growth at Santander UK.
