Desjardins to reduce total number of ATMs and service centres by 30% by 2026

  • Desjardins Group, a Canadian financial cooperative, plans to reduce the total number of ATMs and service centres in Quebec and Ontario by 30% by December 31, 2026.
  • The decision is driven by the increasing preference of Desjardins members for digital banking solutions, particularly the AccèsD digital banking platform.
  • Members’ growing interest in digital solutions has prompted Desjardins to balance investments in its physical network with the development of digital offerings.
  • The cooperative launched the AccèsD digital banking platform in 2000, expanding its features over the years to include investment management and loans.
  • According to figures from the end of the previous year, Desjardins’ 669 service centres represented only 1% of the total transaction volume, while its 1559 ATMs accounted for 3%.
  • The 30% reduction in ATMs and service centres may be subject to change based on the evolving preferences and activities of Desjardins’ 7.5 million members in the coming years.
